Entry from: Hong Kong, China Entry Title: "Hong Kong" Entry: "We arrived at the ferry terminal at Hong Kong Central, a mistake on our part as we could have taken a ferry directly to Kowloon. Instead we caught a taxi and had a long ride through dense traffic. We were staying on Kowloon's main drag, Nathan Road in the Mirador Mansions. The Mansions are a 16 story decrepit building with a scungy shopping complex on the ground floor and dodgy touts hanging about the entrance. The New Garden Hostel was on the 13th floor and when we left the lift we discovered that the hostel's lobby was a tiny wooden desk in the corridor, by the stairs. Our room was on the 10th floor and when we got there we found that the floor was a mixture of apartments, shops, a tailor factory and several other hostels. As we walked down the dirty concrete corridor, we passed laundry drying on coat hangers hung from exposed pipes. The New Garden Hostel had bought several apartments in the building and this one was subdivided into many guest rooms. Our room was about the size of a compartment in a train, had no window and smelt funny. The bathroom was about the size of an airline toilet but much worse, with dripping water from pipes in the roof. There were blood stains on the sheets. But we could have done worse.
